Breaking the Silence: Why Menopause Support is Essential for Your Female Workforce

Hey there, let’s talk about something that affects half of the workforce but is often brushed under the rug. That’s right, I’m talking about the menopause! This colourful phase of life can impact female employees in various ways, from productivity and performance to mental wellbeing and self-esteem, over a period of eight to ten years. As an employer, it’s crucial to open up the dialogue on women’s health and the menopause to understand what your female employees are going through. By doing so, you’ll be able to offer the right support measures to help them perform at their best.

It’s fantastic to see more and more employers offering menopause support or improving their offerings in response to their employees’ needs. We’re making progress, and I believe it’s essential to continue having open conversations about the menopause to improve the support we offer employees through mentally tough times.

Let’s not forget that as we live longer, we’re working longer. So, anything we can do to improve our support offerings to employees through tough times, the more likely we are to encourage loyalty, motivation, and productivity. The menopause doesn’t just impact female employees, so let’s bring male colleagues into the conversation too. Educating them about the signs of poor mental wellbeing and how to support their colleagues is a game-changer.

In a world were attracting and retaining talent is a struggle, the more support options you have, the more likely you are to keep the right people in the business. By treating menopause support the same as any other wellbeing or mental health support, you show your commitment to your employees’ health and wellbeing.
